The Canadian Home Builders' Association announced on Septeber 19th the recipients of the 2009 Awards of Excellence in Housing. The Living Home was acknowledged as a finalist in the Green Vision category, and was the recipient of an Award of Merit for the Lethbridge Region.
The City of Lethbridge and Lethbridge College would like to congratulate Cedar Ridge Quality Homes on being acknowledged for their innovation and expertise, their support of student research, and their promotion of green building practices in Alberta. The Living Home Open House |

Lethbridge College, Cedar Ridge Quality Homes and the City of Lethbridge hosted an open house for the Living Home project, March 26 at 609 Sunridge Crescent W.
The event marked the completion of construction on the environmentally sustainable house, designed, in part, through research done by Lethbridge College students in the Engineering Design and Drafting Technology program. Students from other disciplines also brought their talents to bear on the project. The home will be open to the public until the fall while additional tests are conducted.

The Living Home – Lethbridge College leads green home initiative Melanie Fast
Lethbridge College took another step in distinguishing itself as a leader in sustainability last Wednesday when it launched its “Living Home” project at the Residence Hall. The college, partnered with the City of Lethbridge and Cedar Ridge Quality Homes, will build a “green” home in the Sun Ridge residential district. “With this Living Home project, Lethbridge College has the opportunity to be one of Canada’s first green colleges,” said Mayor Bob Tarleck at the project launch. The launch also unveiled the project’s logo, designed by second-year multimedia production student Jeremy Rickaby. |

It seems only appropriate in retrospect: while watching their children unleash sustainable energy on a green soccer pitch last spring, Peter Leclaire and Michael Kelly got to talking about environmentally responsible housing. As the anecdote was told at City Hall, soccer coach Michael, the city’s manager of real estate and land development, suggested to soccer dad Peter, Lethbridge College’s vice-president academic and chief learning officer, that the institution might be able to engage its students in an effort to advance the environmental goals for the city’s SunRidge subdivision. |
