The Living Home Project is a collaborative effort to educate, demonstrate, validate and promote “good” home design.  Through this website, public forums and educational sessions, we hope that every interested party will have the opportunity to benefit from this project.  Listed below are some of the benefits of the project.

Lethbridge College Students

• Students at the college will have the opportunity to be directly involved in the design, and research of the project.  The applied learning opportunity is invaluable in the emerging field of environmental design of buildings.

Citizens of Lethbridge

• There is no cost to the taxpayer for this opportunity as the cost of the home will be recuperated after the sale of the home.
• The findings from this project could reduce infrastructure needs of the City, in turn reducing required taxes and levies to the average citizen.
• All our design research, decisions and rationale, and research results will be open source and available to the public at no cost.
• Design principles, techniques and research data may be used by the public for the design of their new homes or retrofit of their existing homes.
• The data collected is specific to Lethbridge and will be usable for any home in Lethbridge.  For example, the calculated and researched solar gains through a south facing window for the “Living Home” would be equivalent to any home in Lethbridge.
• After the home has been constructed the public will be able to tour the home and attend public educational sessions for up to one year.
• The findings will lead to healthier, more efficient, and a better environment in Lethbridge.
• The City of Lethbridge can become a leader in environmental home design.

Local Contractors and Suppliers

• All our design research, decisions and rationale, and research results will be open source and available to contractors and suppliers at no cost.
• Valuable design tools, data and verification of building practices, techniques, materials and technologies will be available at no cost.
• Contractors and suppliers have the opportunity to become leaders in superior environmental construction practices and products.

• Education in “good” building design will be available in the home for interested Real Estate groups and Agents to ensure quality service to their clients.

Non Local Interested Parties

• Although the project is specific to Lethbridge, the design techniques and research is an invaluable resource to anyone interested in Home Design.  Through modification the results of the project can be used nation wide and even worldwide.
